Description
Alcatel-Lucent, the Franco-American telecommunications equipment manufacturer, has announced plans to make a further 398 job cuts in France between March and December 2008, in addition to the 1,006 redundancies in the country announced last year. A total of 398 jobs will be axed at Alcatel-Lucent France, the group's largest subsidiary in France, with the remaining 34 job cuts affecting the group's Paris headquarters.
The group said the job cuts are to be made by means of voluntary redundancies, adding that none of its sites will be closed down. The consultation procedure relating to the new restructuring measures is due to begin before the end of the month.
On 23 February 2007, Alcatel-Lucent had announced its plans to cut between 1,000 and 1,500 jobs in France within the next two years (until February 2009).
