Description

Gruppo grafico editoriale Canale, a firm that operates in the publishing sector, has announced that it is to cut 150 jobs at two of its sites in Italy. 100 of 250 jobs will be lost at the firm’s plant in Borgaro Torinese in the province of Turin, and 50 of 100 jobs will be lost at the firm’s plant in Borgo San Dalmazzo in the province of Cuneo. The job losses were set out in a re-organisation plan announced by the firm on 29th November 2007, and are to be implemented by the end of January 2008. The firm attributes the decision to the need to reduce its operative costs in the face of increasing global competition. Local trade unions have responded to the re-organization plan by going out on strike. At some time in December 2007, the trade unions will meet company management in order to discuss possible solutions to the negative social effects associated with the restructuring. Gruppo grafico editoriale Canale publishes several different products and more than an half of its production is sold on the European market. It operates three sites in Italy and one in Romania, and has a total workforce of 600 employees.
