Description

South Midland Construction, an Irish civil engineering company, collapsed with significant debts and the loss of 100 jobs. The company went into liquidation on 9 November 2007 and was subsequently put up for sale. The firm had been in business for more than 40 years and had annual revenues of more than €70 million. At the time of the announcement, SMC was building a gas pipeline between Castlebar and Westport for Bord Gáis, but that work was then put on hold.
