Description
Tenneco, the U.S. car parts manufacturer, has announced that its site in Wissembourg, in the Bas-Rhin region, is to close with the loss of 181 jobs. The plant is operated by Tenneco’s subsidiary Wimetal, and exhaust pipes are produced at the site. The site will be closed between December 2007 and April 2008, and Tenneco has cited overcapacity within the region as the grounds for the closure. Tenneco also operates sites in Rennes at which 37 are employed, and Iwuy, at which 59 are employed. The group has stated that these sites will not be affected by the closure of the Wissembourg plant. Tenneco operates 90 plants in 24 countries.
