Description

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the publicly owned UK television and radio broadcaster, has announced plans to cut 2,500 jobs across the UK. It is expected that approximately 1,800 redundancies will be made, whilst 700 job losses will be achieved through natural attrition. The organization also plans to consult staff over the possibility of voluntary redundancy. However, the unions NUJ, Bectu and Unite, all of whom represent employees at the BBC, have condemned the job cuts, and have also raised the possibility of industrial action. As of October 2007, there is no information on when the job losses will be implemented by. The BBC employs 26,000 in the UK.
