Description
Mutuelle générale de l'Education nationale (MGEN), an organization that provides health insurance for French teachers, is to cut 800 jobs across France. The announcement was made on September 4th 2007, and the jobs are to be cut between December 2007 and December 2008. Trade unions have criticized the move, and the organization's works council also voted against the proposals. The French Government had signalled possible job cuts at MGEN in the summer of 2007. The job losses at MGEN are also in anticipation of the Government's announcement in July 2007 that it was to cut 22,700 jobs in the French Civil Service in 2008. MGEN employs 3,900 in France.
