Description
Checkwell Decision Corporation, a Canadian firm that checks the backgrounds of employees, is to open a new site in Swansea and create 125 jobs for University graduates over the next two years. The site will become the firm’s UK headquarters, and the firm will offer services including credit, background and criminal record checks on people applying for jobs as well as reference verification. The firm has received funding from the Welsh Assembly Government to open in Wales, and will offer its services to the banking, insurance, education and business sectors in the UK and Europe. Welsh Assembly Government Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones said the ‘niche’ market was worth around £200m a year in the UK. He stated:
‘Although relatively new to the UK, it is a tried and tested business model in North America and the company is confident they can replicate that success in the UK.’
‘It may well serve as a catalyst that could open up a new market sector placing Checkwell and Swansea in pole position to exploit these new opportunities.’
Dean Drysdale, chairman of Checkwell Decision Corporation, said, ‘With the support of the Welsh Assembly Government, we are delighted to have a base in Swansea.’
‘With a well-qualified graduate population this will be a great base for our company.’
