Description

The executive board of Katowicki Holding Węglowy (KHW), the coal mining group, has decided to close its subsidiary, Katowicki Węgiel, with the loss 170 jobs. The firm acted as an intermediary in the sale of coal from KHW’s mines, and will close by September 2007. The reason behind the closure was that the Supreme Chamber of Control, Poland’s state audit body, determined that Katowicki Węgiel realised high revenues on the various margins and commissions paid by KHW mines and that there was no legitimate need for an intermediary of this sort to continue in operation.
