250 jobs are to be lost at Coventry University Hospital. The Hospital, part of University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS (National Health Sefvice) Trust, has to find 15 million GBP in one year to pay its way. A spokesman from the hospital said it will be looking to 'do things more efficiently'. Charlie Sarell, from Unison, said the news comes 'as no surprise' and the union was 'very concerned' about the jobs situation.
He said: 'We've been watching the situation at the trust with great concern.' 'This reduction, if coming out of clinical services, will have a direct impact on health care to the people of Coventry and Warwickshire.'
Finance director Andy Harding said: 'We are looking at using the new hospital and all the facilities we've got, both in terms of equipment, medical equipment and diagnostic equipment, to do things more efficiently.'
'[We are] looking at where care is most appropriately given, whether that be actually in the hospital or outside of the hospital.'

A further 200 jobs are to be cut by the trust, taking the total number of jobs lost to 450. The managerial, corporate and administrative jobs will go from Coventry's University Hospital and the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby, Warks. The trust now needs to save 30 million GBP in this financial year. Savings of 20 million GBP have already been identified but another 10 million GBP needs to be found. Martin Lee, the trust's interim chief executive, stated:
'Every endeavour has, and will be made, to find the savings from elsewhere, but it is clear that, with the exception of cutting services, the only major area left within which to make significant savings towards the £10m, within the time scale, is post reduction.'
'Wherever possible, we will be looking for voluntary redundancies, however, we may need to consider compulsory redundancies as well.'
