Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The merger of two building firms, Barratt Developments and Wilson Bowden, means that up to 400 jobs at the two firms will be lost. It is uncertain how many redundancies will be made, as the firms hope redundancies will be minimised through natural staff turnover and redeployment. The job losses will occur in the head offices of the firms in Leicestershire and Newcastle. Chief executive Mark Clare said: 'It is always regrettable to have to announce redundancies but we have acted swiftly to remove the uncertainty employees have inevitably faced.' 'We will do everything we can to ensure that we integrate the businesses as quickly and as smoothly as possible.'
