Whipp and Bourne, a firm that makes electronic switching gear in Castleton, will make 100 people redundant when it relocates its manufacturing base to South Wales. The firm will be keeping about 50 jobs in research and development at the Rochdale site. A spokesman for the company said it would be offering support to those affected by the relocation plans. James Olley, spokesman for the parent company FKI Switchgear, confirmed the proposed closure of the assembly and feeder operations in Rochdale. He said: 'The proposal includes relocating these operations to its Blackwood premises in South Wales.' 'This proposal is subject to a consultation period. FKI is mindful of its responsibility to the local community and has offered its support to those who may be affected by the proposals.'
