Description
Dairy manufacturers Dairy Crest have announced that 35 redundancies will be made at the firm's plant in Nottingham. The firm employs 253 workers at the site, and acquired the site from Arla Foods in August 2006. A spokesperson from the Usdaw union said some redundancies were expected and it was in talks with managers. A Dairy Crest spokesperson said the firm regretted the job losses and would help those affected by the cuts to find alternative employment.
John Gorle, National Officer for the Union of Shop Distributive and Allied Workers (Usdaw), said: 'Although some redundancies had been expected at the site our members will still be coming to terms with the announcement and our officials will be on hand to support them during what is a very worrying time for a highly committed workforce.'
'Usdaw representatives will be using the consultation period to look at the business plan behind this decision and examine Dairy Crest's long terms plans for the site.'
