Description

Smk Pam is a supermarket chain that has 105 point of sales in 11 Italian regions and around 11,000 employees.

In May 2006, the company reached an agreement with the trade unions concerning a reorganisation plan that envisaged changes in the work organisation (especially regarding the shifts), new criteria to define the performance-related pay and the loss of 85 jobs.

At the beginning of April 2007, the company announced the need to further decrease the labour costs with the consequent loss of 105 jobs.

At national level, the trade unions reacted to the company's decision by going out on strike on 2 April and demanding to meet the company’s representatives in order to avoid the staff cuts.
