The French company already has offices in London and Manchester and said it expects to expand further in the UK.

The development of the new centre, which will open in May, has been supported by a Welsh Assembly Government regional assistance grant. Jonathan Poole, Valtech chief executive, said Wales offered a 'skilled workforce with software development expertise'.

He said: 'We have been particularly impressed with the high academic standards in computing research and teaching at Welsh universities and the relevance of areas of their work to our own needs.'

The group, which has a 65 million GBP turnover, expects to recruit up to 40 staff in the first year and 167 within three years.
