Description

Sykehuset Østfold is part of the state owned Helse Øst (Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority) and employs about 3,900 people. Sykehuset Østfold is responsible for providing specialist somatic and psychiatric services within the county of Østfold, which has about 250,000 inhabitants. Activity is mainly concentrated in the cities of Fredrikstad, Moss, Askim, Halden and Sarpsborg.

As it is the case with most hospital trusts, Sykehuset Østfold struggles with deficits and demands for cutting costs. At the Board meeting on 26 March it was decided to reduce costs and cut about 100 jobs throughout the year. Exact numbers and the groups that will be affected are to be decided within the next two to three months. But it is expected that administrative staff, along with temporary staff, will be affected most. With a normal labour turnover the Board is not anticipating a need for dismissals.

The union 'Fagforbundet' said to the media before the Board meeting that they will not accept any dismissals. They also said that the cost cut should be done mainly by using less temporary staff and that redundant employees must be given training and transferred to new positions.
