Description

Jabil Circuit, a global electronics company providing comprehensive electronics design, production and product management services to global electronics and technology companies, is going to close its unit in Western Hungary, Szombathely, and thus make its 1070 employees redundant in the second quarter of 2007. Jabil started production at the Szombathely plant, which was previously operated by Philips in late 2005. Jabil is planning to concentrate production activities at its unit in Eastern Hungary, Tiszaújváros. Servicing activities would be performed by another unit in Szombathely. Company representatives blamed business cycles for the closure and restructuring. The company is planning to relocate its activities to Ukraine, although information has not been confirmed. Negotiations with the local employment office and with local government officials will begin shortly.
