Sugar producer Suedzucker announced the closure of two sites in Germany, Groß-Gerau and Regensburg. 278 employees are affected. Negotiation talks with employee representatives from both affected sites will be held in May 2007. Management is seeking a socially acceptable solution for the affected employees. Suedzucker argued that the decision was a consequence of the EU sugar reform. To ensure its future competitiveness, the company is closing the two sites in Groß-Gerau and Regensburg. Suedzucker currently employs around 20,000 employees worldwide.
