Arkema, the manufacturer of chemicals, announced on 26 March 2007 its plans to stop production in its factory in Pierre-Bénite with the consequent loss of 226 jobs. According to the group, the site is in deficit. Currently 574 people are employed at the factory. Arkema Group was created in October 2004. Before that the company was a subsidiary of Total. Since its creation, Arkema has undergone several restructuring processes and job cuts.
