Description

Camif is the third largest retailer of consumer goods via mail orders in France. On 20 March 2007, the company announced its plans to cut between 350 and 450 jobs between March 2007 and March 2008 in Niort, where 1,500 people are currently working. 600 workers took part in a general meeting with the trade unions CGT, FO, CFDT, CGC. They criticise the lack of strategy of the company, which is undergoing its third restructuring plan since 2000. On 16 May 2007, after discussion with the trade unions, Camif, in serious financial difficulties, announced the loss of 340 jobs across the whole of its sites where 1,900 people are currently working, including 230 in its main site in Niort (Deux Sèvres).
