Description

On 28 September 2006, Bavaria-based manufacturer of car roofs Webasto, which employs a workforce of 6,200 people globally, announced its plans to cut 450 out of 3,800 administrative and research jobs by the end of 2007.

In Germany, 280 jobs out of about a total of 2,500 will be lost. No direct dismissals are expected in Germany. There are no available data on the other affected countries. Despite an overall increase in orders, the company is planning to bring down costs by 1.4 million euro by 2008. The cost saving programme is said to react to decreasing sales of sport car roofs, particularly in the USA.
