Description
Internal changes in the aeronautic corporation Airbus, caused by its problems with the manufacturing of A380, will affect its Spanish plants. According to Spanish media, the efficiency plan Power 8, which Airbus is going to introduce, will be less hard for Spanish factories than for German and French plants. The reasons given for this are the good results of the Spanish units. No direct dismissals are foreseen but voluntarily agreed redundancies for each country instead. Other measures brought about by Power 8 are wage freezing and no further hiring actions. 400 jobs are expected to be cut at the Spanish factories, located in Getafe (Madrid), Illescas (Toledo) and Puerto Real (Cadiz), none of which will close. On the contrary, one of the units (Illescas, Toledo) has been rated as 'Centre of Excellence' and the whole Spanish division will take up 10% of the new A350 model workload.
On 27 April 2007 it was revealed that most job cuts in Spain will take place at the factory in Getafe (Madrid), with 334 direct dismissals.
On 31 May 2007 Airbus started negotiations with the trade unions and new figures were released. The number of total Spanish job cuts will be 447 workers.
