Description
Supermarket giant Tesco is moving its distribution depot at Crick to a purpose-built site near Lichfield in Staffordshire with the loss of 600 jobs.
Workers are being told that they will be considered for positions at other sites and stores, or be offered redundancy packages. The company is currently in talks with union representatives who want the depot to remain open.
Gary Holz, union official for USDAW (Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers) said if the depot had to close the union will negotiate redundancy packages and help find alternative employment in the area.
A Tesco spokesman said the Crick grocery depot faced planned closure by the end of September 2007, subject to consultation with the unions.
