European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Car giant Nissan is taking on an extra 100 workers at its Wearside production plant after the successful launch of its new model, the Qashqai.
More than 4,300 people are already employed at the Sunderland factory, where five models are now being built. Production of the Qashqai began in December 2006 with vehicles going on sale this month (February 2007).
Last week, Nissan announced the Sunderland plant had made 4.5 million cars since production started 20 years ago.
September 27th 2007
As of September 27th 2007, it has been announced by Nissan that 180 workers on fixed-term temporary contracts will be offered permanent positions at the plant. This decision is due to the success of the firm's Qashqai model.
