Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Nolato Tallinn, a firm that produces high-quality plastic components for mobile phones and shielding solutions, is to close its plant in Tallinn with the loss of 140 jobs. The site is to close by October 2007. Nolato Tallinn is a part of the Nolato Group. It has been speculated that Nolato Group will move parts of the Nolato Tallinn production to sites in Asia, but as yet there is no definite information on this. The closure of the Tallinn site follows a year in which the number of employees at the site has dramatically decreased. In January 2007, there were 541 employees at the site. That figure decreased to 140 by August 2007 through redundancies or workers voluntarily leaving the plant.
