Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Bathroom and kitchen manufacturer American Standard is to make 250 redundancies across its European operations. Gilliane Palmer, spokeswoman for American Standard, said the job cuts were down to rising raw material costs, increased competition and the need for the business to remain competitive.
She said: 'The loss of these jobs is a difficult choice to make, and we will do all we can to ease the transition for everyone involved. We don’t make these kinds of plans easily, particularly when the livelihoods of our people are affected.'
The Ideal Standard plant in Wolverhampton, UK will lose 106 jobs, but the group's Armitage Shanks division will gain around 30 jobs in Rugeley, UK and will be the base for distribution and product development
