European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Paloma, the largest Slovenian producer of paper products for toilet purposes, announced the loss of 178 jobs by the end of 2007. The company currently employs 1,098. The job losses are the result of the restructuring process involving modernisation of machinery (EUR 31.3 million of investment in new machinery and equipment in 2006 and 2007), optimisation of business processes, centralisation of production and reduction of costs. The management announced that the job losses will not be implemented through direct dismissals. Half of the redundant workers will be retiring soon and the other half will continue working for the company under a different status (e.g. as external contractors).
