Description
A firm supplying noise-absorption components to the automotive industry is to close its Essex plant and transfer operations to mainland Europe. Trelleborg Automotive at West Thurrock will close by the end of 2007 with the loss of 150 jobs. The Swedish company announced the closure on Tuesday in Stockholm saying it would cost about 11 million GBP. A company spokesman said transferring operations to Europe would generate annual profits of 3.2 million GBP from 2008. He also said the company was in consultation with an employee committee about job losses and measures to find alternative employment within the Trelleborg Group or with other firms. A sales operation is to remain in the UK.
