Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Jelgavas Cukurfabrika (JC), the sugar manufacturer, announced the closure of its factory in order to comply with the EU sugar reform. The company will receive 30.4 million euro from the EU restructuring fund. JC has informed the State Employment agency that the dismissal of employees will be carried out in four stages. At the first stage 128 dismissals are planned, 11% of which are highly qualified. The company has developed a plan to support the dismissed employees which includes the provision of training.
