Description
250 jobs will go from Nottingham after food production firm Northern Foods sold its Nottingham site to Vision Capital Funds at a meeting on 9 January 2007. The firm will now move its ready meal production to sites in Sheffield and Carlisle by July. Northern Foods said it was making every effort to find work for those affected and 190 employees would be able to relocate if they wanted to. The company said a 90-day consultation period with trade unions has now begun.
A spokesperson from the Transport and General Workers' Union said he was 'shocked and saddened that members are to lose their jobs'.
He added: 'This is a kick in the teeth to our Riverside members who have shown tremendous loyalty to Northern Foods over many years.'
