Electronic Data Systems, the Texas-based IT company and the largest supplier of IT services to the UK government, intends to offshore 1,000 jobs from UK to its European (Hungary, Poland) and Indian centres during 2007. EDS currently employs 16,500 people in the UK. According to the spokeswoman of the company, the reason of the reorganisation is EDS's global strategy and industry dynamics. She also reassured that a comprehensive programme of re-training and re-skilling would be provided to company's UK workforce. The unions' representatives were to meet company executives at the end of November to discuss the restructuring programme.
