Description
German discount chain Aldi decided to expand its business to Slovakia. Hofer, its Austrian daughter company, plans to establish a network of discount shops, which are to compete with cheap and favourite Lidl and Kaufland shops in the country. In the first stage of the project, Hofer will invest around SKK 180 million to establish a logistic centre in Šoporňa nearby Bratislava. The construction of the centre would start in early 2008 and around 200-300 employees will work there when the centre is fully operational. First discount shops are presumed to be opened in the course of 2009.
