Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Finnish paper manufacturer Myllykoski announced on 30 October 2006 its plans to close its manufacturing plant at Dachau. Overcapacity is given as a reason. The Dachau plant currently employs a workforce of 350. No time line is given.
According to Myllykoski a yet unknown number of employees shall find new jobs at a new plant at Platting, Bavaria which will start operation in 2008 and is planned to employ a workforce of 130.
Myllykoski, one of the largest international paper manufacturer, employs an international workforce of 3,700 at nine plants.
