Description

Cablelettra group is one of the world leaders in the construction of cables and power supply strands for the electrical appliances industry. Since 1970 it has driven its attention to the automotive sector: in particular, in Italy, it has principally developed and produced electrical and electronic systems for vehicles produced by the Fiat group, the main Italian car-maker. The Cablelettra group has its plants in Italy, Brazil, China, Germany, Poland and Tunisia. The Robbio Lomellina plant – where 365 workers are employed - is the company's headquarter. At the end of October, the company announced to the trade unions a reorganisation plan that envisages the reduction of production at the Robbio Lomellina plant and the consequent loss of 200, through the activation of the so-called "mobility procedure" (that is the collective redundancy procedure) in January 2007, at the end of a period of recourse to the Wage Guarantee Fund (an income-support measure which does not entail dismissal). The company has decided to transfer part of the production to its plants located in countries that have lower labour costs than Italy. The workers affected by the company's decision could benefit of the "mobility allowance", that is an income protection measure which covers workers made redundant by collective dismissals. Moreover, the company has offered to the redundant workers the support provided by a temporary work agency in order to facilitate re-employment through preparation, assistance, and flanking of the workers in his or her search for a new job.
