Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
About 135 jobs may have to go at Suffolk County Council to meet a predicted shortfall of 22 million GBP, councillors have been warned. It predicts a multi-million pound deficit if projections on the level of government financial support prove to be correct. Council chairman Jeremy Pembroke said the number of redundancies would be kept to a minimum. The government will announce its grant to the council at the end of November. A council spokesman said one of the main cost increases facing the council was the growth in demand for services, particularly among Suffolk's increasing elderly population. The council is also facing increases in the costs of pay, fuel and power. On 6 February, the council's Cabinet will make its final budget recommendations to full Council.
