Description

A major campaign is taking place to recruit up to 160 new staff to work as security officers at Stansted Airport. The campaign will target people in Essex, Suffolk, Hertfordshire and boroughs in north and east London.

It comes in the wake of the 10 August terror alert when the Department for Transport introduced unprecedented levels of security at UK airports. Stansted Airport's Mark Murphy said the new positions will further bolster the security teams already in place.

He said: 'Since 10 August this year, we have faced some of our biggest challenges ever to ensure the new requirements were fully implemented with as little disruption to passengers as possible. Our staff have worked tirelessly to ensure the terminal has continued to operate as effectively as possible during these difficult times.'

Each applicant will have to pass government background and security checks. Cathy Brennan, recruitment and training manager, said: 'We are targeting towns in Essex, Hertfordshire and Suffolk, as well as parts of north and east London, as these are areas where we have had success in recruiting for security positions in the past.'
