Description

Aubade, the French lingerie manufacturer and subsidiary of the Swiss textile group Calida since last year, announced on 3 October 2006 that it plans to cease assembly of products in France as part of a restructuring package. This is expected to take place before the end of 2006. Logistics, marketing, design and part of the cutting operations are to remain in France. Part of the company's La Trimouille site in the Vienne department of France is therefore to close, and part of its operations is to be transferred to the nearby Saint-Savin site. Out of a current 283 jobs at the two affected sites, 180 are to be cut, representing a 38 per cent reduction compared with the group's entire workforce in France (472 employees). Having seen turnover go down by 12% in the first half, Calida has already dropped some unprofitable product lines of Aubade and reorganised the foreign distribution network of the French company. While, at present, 30% of its products are pieced together in France, this area of activity is to be transferred to Tunisia and China.
