Description

The Belgian Melexis Microelectronic Systems has opened its new factory in Sofia. The company has invested more than € 6 million so far and the total investment will reach € 30 million within the next three years. The investment plan comprises the following projects: construction of new production facilities, the Global customer services centre, development and training programme for the hired staff as well as development of some academic programmes at the Technical University in Sofia, L'Institut de la Francophonie pour l'Administration et la Gestion (IFAG) and the City University. The company has already hired 200 people and intends to double this number in the coming three years. Half of them are to be involved in the research and development. As Francois Chombar, the executive director of Melexis, said at the opening ceremony, the first innovations have been already presented. One of them is the unique infrared sensor for distance temperature measuring, which is used by McLaren Mercedes and Williams – both Formula 1 teams.
