Some 200 temporary jobs in Waterford are to be lost as a result of a decision by contact lens manufacturer Bausch & Lomb to trim its workforce worldwide. The company employs 1,750 at its Waterford facility and says some of those being laid off could be rehired in the new year as business needs change.
A company spokesman said the temporary staff, who have all worked less than two years at the plant, will finish up their jobs at the plant between 29 September and 1 October. Most of the lay offs are manufacturing jobs but some are administrative and engineering.
