Description

DSG, the UK's largest electrical retailer, formerly known as Dixons, has started a technical support service which will create up to 2,000 jobs. The company said it would spend 50 million GBP over five years on the new service, which will be called 'The Techguys'.

As well as a call centre, DSG will offer spare parts, repairs and on-site visits to businesses and consumers. DSG said 8 out of 10 people in the UK needed help with hi-tech goods and the market is worth about 1 billion GBP.

The growth in demand for such services is expected to be strong, with DSG predicting that the UK tech-support market could double in size within five years. The company plans to open 200 stand-alone shops across the country, as well as offering 150 service points at its PC World stores.

DSG also said that it planned to expand its UK operations across Europe. DSG runs 1,450 stores in 14 countries and employs 42,000 people.
