European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
In July 2006, Areva Group (owned 79% by the French state) and the energy Group Urenco (principal countries of activities: England, Netherlands and Germany) created their uranium Enrichment Technology Company (ETC) joint venture following clearance from the European Union's competition authority.
On 7 September 2006, ETC announced that in 2007 and 2008, 100 new jobs will be created in the new enrichment plant, whose activity should begin in 2009. Areva and Urenco are to build a new enrichment plant at Tricastin Saint Paul Trois Châteaux (Drôme), in France, which will use 50 times less power than the current gaseous diffusion technology used by other plants. The new 3 billion Euro plant is likely to work at its maximum around 2017. Under its agreement with Urenco, Areva will control a 50% share of ETC, which will supply all future centrifuges to both Urenco and Areva. The companies will continue to compete commercially in separate work services.
