Description
The Danish abbatoir and bacon factory, Danish Crown, announced on 29 June 2006 the closure of its factory in Grindsted (Jutland). It is the third closure of factories since the beginning of 2005. The closure of the bacon factory in Grindsted means that 700 persons are made redundant. The main reason given for the closure is the lack of work. The local union, the Danish Food and Allied Workers' Union (Nærings og Nydelsesforbundet, NNF), however, is optimistic as to finding new jobs or training for the redundant employees. NNF, Danish Crown and the Regional Employment Council are working together with a view to mitigate the effects of the redundancies.
