Description
Bedford Hospital NHS [National Health Service] Trust has revealed plans to axe up to 200 jobs in a bid to reduce a deficit of nearly £12m. Bedford Hospital said they had reduced costs in a number of areas, including not filling vacancies. But further action was now needed. Unions believe that more than 300 posts could be lost. In a statement, the trust's chief executive Jean O'Callaghan said the plans would be presented to the board before a final decision was made. A consultation with the staff would take place and unions were involved in the process, she added.
