Description

American company International Rectifier (IR) is to expand it's Newport plant with the creation of 200 highly skilled jobs. The firm, which has been in the city since 2002 and currently employs 550, develops and makes semi-conductors for electrical appliances and motors. The investment is being supported by a Welsh Assembly Government regional selective assistance grant. Alex Lidow, the firm's chief executive officer, said: 'Our Newport facility continues to grow from strength to strength and it is of great importance to the future growth of IR's business.'

'We are continuing to expand our manufacturing capabilities at the site and will continue to work with the Welsh Assembly Government on these future developments,' he added.

Welsh Enterprise Minister, Andrew Davies, said: 'International Rectifier is a hugely successful company in the semi-conductor market.'

'I am delighted that the Welsh Assembly Government has played a key role in supporting the growing needs of the company both with grant aid and through the Assembly Government's Knowledge Bank for Business.'
