Description

An Indian call centre company has confirmed it will create 600 jobs in Londonderry over the next two years. Last month, ICICI OneSource announced it was creating more than 1,000 jobs shared between two centres in NI, one in Belfast. It has now announced the majority of the jobs will be going to Derry.

Government Development body Invest NI head Leslie Morrison said the two operations would 'deliver over £28m of wages and salaries by 2008 into the local economy'. Matthew Vallance, Managing Director of ICICI in Europe, said the city had a lot to offer.

'We have been impressed with the quality of the workforce, the enthusiasm of the local community and the interest they have shown in our company,' he said.

'Our new Londonderry facility will provide us with a solid foundation to support our long-term growth plans.'

It is thought the centre on Northland Road in the city will be operational by the end of the year. ICICI OneSource handles calls and administration for clients in the financial services, telecommunications and health care sectors. It is one of India's leading business process outsourcing companies, currently employing more than 8,000 staff at 10 centres in the US and India.
