European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
During the night from 9 to 10 May 2006, one of the largest Austrian computer game producers, Rockstar Vienna located in the countrys capital, was closed without previous notice. According to media reports, all of the around 100 employees found themselves locked out and refused admittance to the offices by special bodyguards when they arrived at the firms premises in the morning of 10 May. No background information about the unexpected closure has been provided, neither by the firms management nor the owner of the company, the US Take 2 Group. Such lock-out practices are unusual in Austria, albeit lawful if all legal claims of the employees concerned are fully met. No works council had been installed in the company.
