Description

During the night from 9 to 10 May 2006, one of the largest Austrian computer game producers, Rockstar Vienna located in the country’s capital, was closed without previous notice. According to media reports, all of the around 100 employees found themselves locked out and refused admittance to the offices by special bodyguards when they arrived at the firm’s premises in the morning of 10 May. No background information about the unexpected closure has been provided, neither by the firm’s management nor the owner of the company, the US Take 2 Group. Such lock-out practices are unusual in Austria, albeit lawful if all legal claims of the employees concerned are fully met. No works council had been installed in the company.
