Moy Park foods has said it has entered into talks with staff over the possible closure of its factory, formerly known as Ferne Foods, in Lisnaskea. Union officials have been holding a series of meetings throughout the day amid fears more than 180 jobs could be lost at a County Fermanagh food plant. It produces frozen breaded chicken and processed egg products, and employs 188 people - 137 of them full-time. Shop steward Barney Curry said unions would fight the closure. The firm said cheaper overseas imports meant the plant was no longer viable. The consultation is likely to take at least three months. Moy Park said the plant was neither large enough, nor sufficiently specialist, to warrant long-term investment. It said employees wishing to stay within the company would be offered similar employment where possible in the company's other larger Northern Ireland sites. About 3,500 people are employed by Moy Park in Northern Ireland across three production sites at Dungannon, Craigavon and Moira.The company said that it would be concentrating on the larger facilities to remain competitive.
