On 1 May 2006 health insurance company Agis announced that 400 jobs are to be cut, of which 150 are temporary and 250 are permanent. Agis, one of the five largest health insurance companies in the Netherlands, lost one fourth of its clients since the introduction of the new Health Insurance Act (Zorgverzekeringswet)on 1 January 2006 whereas the numbers of clients of the four other large insurance companies increased. Agis announced emphatically that it will address its attention on collective insurances and special target groups but that they still remain a social health insurance company and will provide good quality health care for a fair price. The redundancies will take place mainly at the staff divisions and other supporting units. The works council is informed by AgisÂ’ board about the plans and will react in the middle of May.
