Description

In April 2006, 260 workers at Blackpool Sports Car Manufacturer TVR were told they were to lose their jobs. The workforce, which had reached almost 1,000 at the peak of TVR's fortunes in the late 1990s, was told of the shutdown not by the company but by union leaders following a meeting with TVR executives. Neither company owner Mr Smolensky, who has persistently refused all interviews since taking over TVR two years ago, nor company spokesmen were available for comment at the time.

However, after talks with Trade Unions, the firm has decided to remain in Lancashire but move to a new site. This has had the effect of possibly saving the threatened positions. The Union is to hold further talks with company management. Andy Robertson, T&G regional industrial organiser, said: 'We're not out of the woods yet but this looks like positive news after a period of gloom.'
