Description
Lenovo, a large scale producer of personal computers (with a turnover of 13 billion USD in 2005), is to move its Centre for technical support from Scotland to Slovakia. Milko Van Dijl, Company President for Europe, Near East and Africa (EMEA), announced that the new Centre in Bratislava would provide complete services for customers' order administration. Around 340 new jobs for highly-qualified employees will be created at this centre. An effective business environment, an available qualified and cheap work force, and provided governmental support for the new investment are considered the most decisive factors for the relocation. The investment also confirms the interest of multinationals in investing in Slovakia not only in manufacturing sectors such as the automotive industry, but also in other areas with high added value.
According to the latest information as of November 2006, the recently opened Centre employs almost 400 employees, of whom around 70% have an university education.
As of June 2007, management at the Lenovo Company have announced that it will extend its activities in Slovakia. The firm will extend the operation of its regional centre in Bratislava. It will hire an extra 180 employees in a not yet identified timeline.
According to the available information, 180 new jobs were created by mid September 2007.
