Description
On 30 March 2006, DSM (chemicals) announced that it will close the aspartaan-factory (a joint-venture with the Japanese Tosoh-group (chemicals)) in Geleen on 1 November 2006. This is due to the worldwide overcapacity in aspartaan (an artificial sweetener) which resulted in a five year decline in prices. A spokesperson for DSM expects that for a large majority of the employees replacement jobs can be found.
